Ethiopia Committed to Supporting Private Business Sector, MoFA State Minister Says –


Addis Ababa, May 11, 2022 (Walta) – Minister of State, Ambassador Redwan Hussein had a meeting today with the management of Unilever Manufacturing PLC

The discussion between the two parties focused on the company’s activities in Ethiopia and the support they need from the Ethiopian government. The company produces food, household and personal care products in Ethiopia and employs over 7,000 Ethiopians.

Unilever Africa Chairman Jaime Aguilera said his company has chosen Ethiopia as one of its priority destinations for investment.

He said the company exports goods it produces in Ethiopia and mainly uses domestic raw materials in the manufacturing process.

Ambassador Redwan called on the company to step up its investments in Ethiopia and not be discouraged by the temporary setbacks caused by Covid-19 and security concerns.

He said the government is committed to supporting the private business sector in line with the direction of economic reforms in the country.

He said the government was ready to host a consultative forum for manufacturers and senior government officials to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities of doing business in Ethiopia.

Unilever Manufacturing executives appreciated the government’s encouraging efforts to make the investment industry more attractive. They also said the company has a long-term investment plan in Ethiopia.
